NLC Updates On The Projects
♦ NLCIL’s Thermal Power Station (TPS l) (600 MW) is the oldest power plant of the Company in operation since the year 1962. Considering the age of the Plant, a new Power Plant viz., Neyveli New Thermal Power Plant (NNTTP) of 1000 MW (2 x 500 MW) capacity is under implementation.
♦ Presently the power generated from TPS-l (after auxiliary consumption) is being supplied to TANGEDCO as per the Power Supply Agreement (PSA), which is valid for a period of 5 years (i.e., up to 31.03.2019) or commissioning of NNTPP whichever is earlier, unless it is specifically extended on mutually agreed terms.
♦ The Unit - l of NNTPP is in advanced stage of commissioning, while the Unit - II is expected to be synchronised shortly. Since the commissioning and stabilization of both the Units of NNTPP may take some more time, TANGEDCO was requested to extend the existing PSA up to 30.09.2019 on a mutually agreed terms & conditions as provided in the PSA. The proposal for extending the PSA beyond 31.03.2019 was not agreed to by TANGEDCO. However, discussions are underway with TANGEDCO for extension of the existing PSA on mutually agreed terms till the commissioning of both the Units of NNTPP.
♦ Since TANGEDCO is the only beneficiary for the power generated from TPS-l and in the event of TANGEDCO not agreeing for the extension sought as above, appropriate decision will be taken as to whether the Units shall be operated partially/ fully / not operated, w.e.f.01.04.2019.
